WrestleMania 40 is about to begin within a few hours and fans are eagerly waiting to see what could be in store for the championship reign of Roman Reigns that’s been ongoing for such a long time.

In the highly anticipated main event of Night One of the show, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion will join forces with The Rock to take on the prime babyface duo of Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. The outcome of this match will influence the Main Event of Night Two.

WWE Wrestlemania 40: Special Entrance Planned For Champion Despite Controversy

On WrestleMania 40 Sunday, a showdown between Reigns and Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title is in store that will be a rematch from last year. It will also be setting the stage for a clash of the two top WWE stars where the challenger will get one final chance to claim the most prestigious belt in sports entertainment.

While not officially confirmed, many do expect Rhodes to emerge victorious and dethrone Roman Reigns as champion after he ruled the roost for more than three years in the WWE with the title around his shoulder. As announced by the WWE, he might just head into retirement after dropping the belt.

Roman Reigns is not anywhere near to announce retirement

While that’s not confirmed, Roman Reigns will certainly be heading into a long hiatus after WrestleMania 40. In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shed light on the post-match status of the champion and dismissed any sort of rumors of retirement but rather hinted at a potential hiatus from WWE.

Given his grueling schedule, Roman Reigns will take some time off following WrestleMania 40. Fans shouldn’t expect to see him on WWE programming until the next Saudi Arabia show arrives rumored for May 25th. Or else, he could be going on a hiatus until the SummerSlam event set for August 3rd in Cleveland,

“I don’t think anyone believes Reigns would retire with a loss, and WWE has taught fans not to believe it, but given his schedule, it’s probable he’d take some time off. Given his limited schedule, one wouldn’t even expect him on a show again until the as yet unannounced next Saudi Arabia show (last word being on 5/25) and the 8/3 SummerSlam show in Cleveland.”
