Roman Reigns has successfully defended his Universal Championship against Jey Uso in an “I Quit Hell in a Cell” match in October. This wrapped up the feud against Jey. Now he is set to face Randy Orton at Survivor Series, but that is not where the storyline from SmackDown will focus into. Either of the champion’s titles won’t be on the line and there’s not much hypes are available around this match.

In the meantime, The company is already laying the groundwork set for the next championship feud for Roman Reigns. Ringside News previously reported that Daniel Bryan will be back around Survivor Series 2020 for a big angle. That appeared to be true as he could come back to the main event picture after a long hiatus of around one and a half years.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided a follow-up report on Ringside News to confirm that Daniel Bryan will face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship after his return. The feud is being set up, out of necessity as they really don’t have anyone else close to the strong status of Reigns, at this point. No else babyface belongs to that main event level on the blue brand.

“[Reigns] scheduled to work with Daniel Bryan, out of necessity it seems, because Bryan wasn’t positioned like a main event title contender at all when he returned.”

It should be noted that Bryan is working on a limited schedule in WWE for the better part of this year. Chances were relatively low that he could be back to the championship picture. But top babyfaces like Rey Mysterio, Kevin Owens just simply out of the league that Roman Reigns belongs, nowadays. So the feud’s beginning is just a matter of time until Bryan comes back.

Daniel Bryan’s position in WWE is quite unique as he also works for the writing team of the company. Obviously, it wasn’t his idea to give himself a title opportunity and face Roman Reigns but to help the overall SmackDown product and its ratings.
