Former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn who is also a former one time the WWE NXT champion recently imagined Goldberg making his debut on today’s WWE. He gave opinion on if the WWE Hall of Famer would be as famous if he made his debut on today’s WWE.
Goldberg made his professional wrestling debut in 1996 and from the very first day of his debut he had been presented as an unstoppable force. In his first match he faced Hugh Morris who was later known as Bill DeMott and everybody thought this guy is nothing but a rookie. But WCW had bigger plans for him. He dominated Morris in that match and defeated him. It was the first of many back to back victories that were yet to come.

He went through a stunning one hundred and seventy one back to back wins in WCW before it was finally broken by Kevin Nash. During this undefeated run, he defeated all the big names of WCW including Hulk Hogan and Sting. He was the only find of WCW during the 90s and the famous Monday night wars.
During that time the WWE kept on trying to find new talents whereas WCW relied on big stars. Goldberg was the only big name that WCW created back in the time. But after the death of the promotion excellent run was stopped as well.
But it is a valid question if the former three times WWE world champion would have been as famous as he was in WCW if he made his debut in today’s WWE. The format of WWE back in that time and today is completely different. Even the most skilful and talented wrestlers cannot even get a break in WWE these days.
During the recent budget cut of the way we have seen over 70 wrestlers has been released by the promotion. Most of them were quite talented and had the potential to be top stars. So it is very difficult in WWE to become a top star nowadays.
Sami Zayn who is also a former one time the WWE NXT champion recently spoke to Corey Graves’ “After The Bell” podcast where he imagined Goldberg making his debut on todays WWE. He gave opinion on if the WWE Hall of Famer would be as famous if he made his debut on today’s WWE. He said;
“Goldberg debuts today in NXT, is he going to be [the same] Bill Goldberg?” Zayn said. “My guess is probably not. Bill Goldberg had to fill a very specific vacuum that only existed at that exact time for him to be in the spot that he’s in.
“I hope I’m not taking a shot at Bill here by saying I’m pretty sure he’d be the first to acknowledge that this guy isn’t exactly known for his 5 star matches or anything, he’d steam roll through guys.
If he came around at a slightly different time when work rate was far more important, he might have been left in the dust or people might not have taken a second look at him. It’s so circumstantial.”
