Sami Zayn is the one half of the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions and he shared the ring with his Tag Team partner Kevin Owens defending their titles against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa at Night of Champions. It was the main event of the show and indeed one of the best matches of the event.
The Tag Team Championship is rarely treated this much special in WWE before. This is the first time the WWE Tag Team titles is featuring on the main event scene again and again in a long time. Kudos to the WWE creative team for building the Tag Team Championship in such an excellent way.
Sami Zayn Reveals Why Main Eventing Night of Champions Holds Special Meaning
The value of the Tag Team titles increased for a number of other reasons as well. The rise of Sami Zayn is one of the biggest reasons behind the ultimate success of the Tag Team titles. Speaking with the “After the Bell with Corey Graves” podcast, Sami Zayn expressed his happiness of being featured on the main event of Night of Champions;
On main eventing the Saudi Arabia show: “I always felt like I would have been the natural representative for those shows [in Saudi Arabia] and I just wasn’t. So it was good to finally be put in that position, and in a main event spot, and opposite Roman and Solo, and the story that’s kind of been carrying the company for a minute now. It felt like it all just kind of came together perfectly. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to go back.”

On how much it meant for him to travel to the Middle East: “I’m Arabic, I’m Muslim. That’s my part of the world. I understand those people. Those are my people. When I went there, I got to go to Mecca, which is just a surreal experience. And I also saw my uncles that I hadn’t seen in 25 years, I had cousins that I hadn’t seen in 25 years, I met my great-uncle who I didn’t even know existed. So it was pretty heavy in a lot of ways.”
This is not the first time that the Undisputed Tag Team titles featured on the main event of any show. The last time the show featured on the main event of a PLE was the biggest one, WrestleMania 39. It featured on the night 1 of the Grandest Stage of them all.
At WrestleMania 39, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens defeated The Usos to win the Undisputed Tag Team titles. It was an amazing victory and definitely one of the most satisfactory ones in WWE history. But we still believe that the Tag Team titles need to split soon so that more tag teams could get opportunities to win the titles.
