Professional wrestling legend and former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella who is also a former WWE United States champion recently remembered his infamous Santina gimmick and revealed what were the actual plans behind it.
Santino was one of the most famous names during his time. He was mostly famous among the fans because of his excellent comedy timing. He is considered as one of the best comedians in professional wrestling history. But unlike other comedians of WWE, he was pretty famous as well.
Santino Marella Recalls The Actual Planning Of The Santina Character
His debut in WWE is considered as one of the most famous debutes in WWE history. He shocked the entire world when he won the Intercontinental championship on his debut match against Umaga. Later he went on to win more titles like the United States championship and the Tag Team Championship.
One of the most infamous gimmick that Santino ever played was the gimmick of Santina Marella. She played the gimmick of her own sister and it would have been fun if it stayed for one or two weeks. But WWE decided to continue the gimmick for months, which was pretty strange.
Nobody liked this strange character. It was one of the worst received gimmicks in WWE history. Still, WWE decided to continue this annoying and irritating gimmick. It went on for months. Fans were so angry with WWE back in the time that they started to say that WWE did not care about what fans wanted to see.
Things became even worse when Santina Marella wait on to win the miss WrestleMania Battle Royal of WrestleMania 25. Some of the biggest legends of WWE including the likes of Molly Holly and Sunny were parts of this Battle Royal and they had Santina win it. It was an example of terrible early days booking of the PG Era of WWE.
Santino Marella who is also a former WWE United States champion recently spoke to WrestlingNews.co where he remembered his infamous Santina gimmick and revealed what were the actual plans behind it. She said;
“Santina was supposed to be one night only, and it was just so funny. Like, you know, people that were in gorilla, like Vince was pissing his pants It was so funny and so she stuck around for a few months.”
