Professional wrestling legend and two times WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels who is a former four times WWE World Champion recently talked about the longevity of Royal Rumble. He also discussed how this event affected his career.
Shawn Michaels has been the second ever wrestler to win back to back Royal Rumble matches. The first wrestler to win back to back Royal Rumble matches was the Hulk Hogan back in 1990 and 1991. But in those days, the Royal Rumble match did not really mean anything.
Shawn Michaels Discusses The Longevity Of Royal Rumble And How It Affected His Career
Michaels won the Royal Rumble match in 1995 and in 1996. As mentioned above, he was the second ever wrestler to win back to back Royal Rumble matches. After him it was Stone Cold Steve Austin who won back to back Royal Rumble matches in 1997 and in 1998. Nobody else could win back to back Royal Rumble matches in the history of the WWE.
Michaels was not only famous for winning to back two back Royal Rumble matches. He also made history when he won the Royal Rumble match of 1995 after entering the match as the first entrant. Only Chris Benoit and Edge could win the Royal Rumble match from the no 1 position except of him.
Michaels had a lot of Royal Rumble entrances and in most of them he had been sensational. Who can forget the amazing final to battle between him and the Undertaker at Royal Rumble 2007. It is definitely the best ever final to clash in Royal Rumble match history.
Except of the Royal Rumble match, she presented some other great matches in the Royal Rumble pay per view event as well. For an example his Casket match against the Undertaker from Royal Rumble 1998 is still remember to this date.
Shawn Michaels who is a former four times WWE World Champion recently spoke on The Bump where he talked about the longevity of Royal Rumble. He also discussed how this event affected his career. He said;
“But at the same time, I don’t know. I guess you always feel that to have, I don’t know, almost 30 plus years of longevity in this line of work is pretty tough to do. But again, it’s something that to me, I feel like once the Rumble comes, that’s when everybody gets excited. And the roll to WrestleMania is right around the corner. And as I say, I don’t know that does justice to just how big that events become.”
“Yeah. Oh, for sure. And again, look, it’s especially when we started talking about again that having a real attachment to WrestleMania. But look, I can say this, the first time that I really — it was watching Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig out there in the Rumble, and everything he did and how he made everything look so spectacular. He didn’t win; he never won a Royal Rumble. But he was the first guy that I watched to where I realized, oh my goodness, even in this event with 30 other people, you can become the focal point.”
