Smackdown – Jeff Hardy Wanted To Face Roman Reigns Before His Release

But later he started to run solo. In the late 2000s, WWE started to give him a main event run. During this process he won the WWE World Championship three times in total. After that he left WWE to work elsewhere and everywhere he worked he had been treated as a main event star.

A number of years ago he made his return to WWE and at first he was being treated as a mid card wrestler. Even won multiple mid card championships in WWE since his return. But earlier this year he was relegated to a jobber role. He was losing back to back matches to almost everyone he faced. He was even losing matches on the WWE Main Event, which was the C show of WWE. Fans were extremely unhappy with the way WWE was treating him.

Recently he had been drafted to Friday Night Smackdown and once again there were hopes that WWE would push him once again. After coming to SmackDown, he won a number of matches and he was even featured on the men’s Survivor Series team of Smackdown. In this match she got an excellent run, he was the last man of Smackdown to get eliminated.

It looked like he would have been receiving an upper mid card push before WWE released him which was quite shocking. Reports suggest he was scheduled to face Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble.

Jeff Hardy who is also a former nine times Tag Team champion in WWE recently spoke to Sportskeeda where he expressed his desire to face the WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns for the title before his release. He said;

“I guess there’s three [goals] I think about more than anything. Number one would probably be to be the Universal Champion, ideally, defeating Roman Reigns, because that’s one of my dream matches because his stuff is so powerful.

“Now, I’ve gotten to mix it up with Seth in the ring, and even Dean Ambrose back before he left and they were The Shield, that was a big deal. So now, Roman’s the one guy, we never came in contact with each other. So I just feel like I kind of belong in that story, and that I will belong in that story.”
