One of the major concerns heading into this week’s Smackdown was to know the next challenger’s name for the women’s division. To address the same we witnessed a pre-taped promo between Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross. Bliss could not be present on Smackdown since she had to attend the Japan live event tour of WWE. But she still had an opportunity as Cross could give a proxy for her on the show.

WWE Championship Match Set For Kofi Kingston At Extreme Rules

Angry Shane McMahon punished The Miz on Smackdown

Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley had the chance to take on Nikki Cross later the night. If Cross wins, Alexa Bliss would get a rematch for the title at Extreme Rules. The former SAnitY member promised that she would not let down Little Miss Bliss and make up her koss from Stomping Grounds. With that being said, the match was underway on Smackdown.

Cross gained the upper hand by going to the top rope and hitting a cross-body block for a two count. Bayley countered sending Cross into the ropes and setting her up in a Tree of Woe. But the English lady came back with a neckbreaker. Bayley came back hitting a swinging back suplex but missed a top rope move. Cross rolled her up to pick up the soft pinfall win. Thus, Alexa Bliss will challenge Bayley in her next title defense at Extreme Rules.

Bayley won the Smackdown women’s championship at Money in the Bank in a historic way. She is the winner of the opportunistic briefcase, this year who cashed in on the same date. Charlotte Flair was her victim on that night whom she pinned to become the new title-holder. This started her journey as the reigning champion and prove to be the best. Alexa Bliss from WWE Raw turned out to be her first opponent for the title.

Now, Alexa Bliss is bonafide women’s champion who won the Smackdown women’s title for two occasions earlier in her career. She was coming back from an injury who’s seemingly desperate to win the title, too. Plus, Nikki Cross was there to provide her the backup. Thus, Bayley pulled off double duties while retaining her title at Extreme Rules.

So, WWE.com hinted that a new rival may be waiting for her on Smackdown,

“At WWE Stomping Grounds, Bayley turned back the challenge of Alexa Bliss, defeating The Goddess to retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship. When asked who should be next to step up to the plate, The Hugger named just about everyone on the Team Blue roster, from Charlotte Flair to Liv Morgan.

Will any of these women be next in line to challenge Bayley?”

However, it looked like WWE may not be willing to keep Alexa Bliss away from the title picture. So she will be getting another title shot at Extreme Rules.
