A big change has been announced for the SmackDown Women’s Championship Match that was originally set to happen at Money In The Bank 2021 pay-per-view event. Now that match will go down on the go-home episode for the PPV with a changed lineup. That, in turn, has also changed the 2021 MITB Ladder Match lineup, set for the Women’s division.

Bianca Belair will now defend her title during next Friday’s live SmackDown from the Toyota Center in Houston, which marks WWE’s return to the road. Live fans will be in attendance for the show. Bayley was her already announced opponent who is now out of action with a torn ACL and is expected to be out of action for 9 months. So she had to be taken out of the equation, abruptly.

New WWE SmackDown Women's Championship Match Set For July 16 Show 1

She was scheduled for an “I Quit” match against Belair at the WWE Money In the Bank pay-per-view on July 18. But WWE official Sonya Deville noted that she would be announcing a “suitable replacement” for Bayley at Money In The Bank. Later, Deville ended up canceling the pay-per-view title match altogether as she rather announced Carmella vs. Belair for next Friday’s live SmackDown edition from Houston.

Liv Morgan again interrupted Deville and Carmella on SmackDown to vent out her frustrations over not getting a spot at the 2021 Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match. She accused Deville of favoritism as Carmella and Zelina Vega were added to the fray without even qualifying for the match. She had already made the point to Deville for the past couple of weeks.

Deville then announced that Morgan will replace Carmella in the Women’s Money In the Bank Ladder Match, representing the SmackDown roster. Liv then warned Carmella, saying she hopes she wins the title next Friday so she can cash in on her. These two have been involved in an angle for the past couple of weeks which may just continue through the next few weeks.

Liv has now joined Asuka, Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Nikki Cross, and Zelina Vega as the confirmed MITB entrants. There are two more spots left from SmackDown that are yet to be filled. We expect those to be announced on next week’s edition amid live fans in attendance. Meanwhile, this will be the second time that Carmella will challenge Bianca Belair for the championship on a regular Friday Night episode.
