Sonya Deville debuted as a part of the Absolution faction alongside Mandy Rose and Paige, a long time ago. Since then she became quite the mainstream attention due to her stint at WWE Total Divas reality TV series as well as the fact that she declared herself a lesbian star (the first one to announce the same as a WWE Superstar after which Tegan Nox did a similar announcement). Now she will be back in action after a hiatus of more than a year.
As seen on WWE programming this week, on Smackdown, Sonya Deville is set to make her in-ring return during next Friday’s Supersized SmackDown episode on FS1. For weeks now, she has been feuding with Naomi who’s showing frustration over how Deville hasn’t booked her to wrestle on SmackDown.

Being a WWE on-screen official, Sonya Deville keeps on telling Naomi she will book her the following week, but that next week never arrived as the former Smackdown Women’s Champion is not worthy of being booked.

Sonya Deville vs. Naomi ongoing for quite a few weeks
That feud continued this week as Naomi asked why she wasn’t booked in the inaugural Queen’s Crown Tournament. In reply, the former Total Divas star said Naomi isn’t worthy of being a queen, and not even worthy of being on the SmackDown roster. The verbal jabs continued until Sonya Deville finally mentioned that Naomi will have a match next week, and then revealed that her opponent would be none other than her.

As mentioned above, this will be Sonya Deville’s first match since coming up short against Mandy Rose in a No DQ Loser Leaves WWE match at SummerSlam 2020. She took some time off after that and returned this past January to join Adam Pearce for an on-screen authority role.
Back in July, it was reported that Sonya Deville was training for her in-ring return, and she was even planned to compete at the Women’s Money In the Bank Ladder Match, but that never happened. WWE also expected her to return to the ring whenever she felt ready as they had “glowing reviews” for Deville after she handled herself well during the stalker case and then transformed into a new authority role.
