WWE Hall Of Famer Bill Goldberg will challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship in the co-main event of SummerSlam 2021. As noted by earlier betting odds, the champion is favored to retain his belt since his opponent is a part-timer and it makes no sense to drop the belt to him. Almost all the fans are expecting Lashley to retain and move forward to his next challenge. Given this is one of the biggest nights of the year, a massive swerve could be in-store by the WWE creative.

A report from WWFOldSchool mentions that Goldberg is likely to win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career at Summerslam 2021. These are the two potential reasons mentioned by the source for the title change,

– Goldberg has lost two matches in a row. A third straight loss could be harmful to his strong on-screen character.

– WWE will return to Saudi Arabia for a Pay-Per-View in October where mostly old-school stars work in big matches. So it makes sense that the former WCW franchise could be booked for that night with his WWE Title being on the line.

Goldberg Was Originally Booked In Rematch At WWE Wrestlemania 37?

After his SummerSlam encounter, Goldberg will have two more matches left in his WWE deal and this was already mentioned during the latest episode of WWE’s The Bump. This is also the same reason why fans think the legendary superstar will lose since he’s contracted to wrestle 2 matches per year (He can’t win the WWE Championship as all his matches for 2021 will be done)

Goldberg could be booked in Saudi Arabia PPV

His 1st match of 2021 took place at the Royal Rumble PPV where he lost to Drew McIntyre in a WWE Championship match while the 2nd one will be at Summerslam.

With the Saudi Arabia PPV, WWE Crown Jewel 2021, scheduled for October 21st, the company can always book Goldberg for a match there, by using one of his matches from 2022 now or just by paying him more money to work an extra match, the third one of this year. Saudi Authorities spends a lot on the WWE spectacular shows and they would be delighted to have the legend back on the card.

Goldberg winning the WWE Title at SummerSlam and then defending it 2 months later at Crown Jewel, and perhaps losing it there, is the possible idea for now. WWE is fine with the idea of a World Champion not defending the Title every month in a PPV just like Brock Lesnar used to do during his reigns.
