WWE Hell in a Cell went down this past Sunday night, where the closing match featured Drew McIntyre losing against Randy Orton. He also lost the WWE Title to The Viper which marked the end of McIntyre’s first title reign that started back at Wrestlemania36. While it has now raised concerns over the former champion’s strong status, Orton has caught up with Triple H’s 14 World Title reigns, cementing his legendary status.
Spoiler On Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre’s Survivor Series Role
Ringside News now exclusively reported that Drew McIntyre will now be leading Team Raw at Survivor Series 2020 edition. As noted on Raw, there will be several brand vs brand showdowns at the November PPV event where the traditional 5-on-5 elimination tag team match will also be on the card. AJ Styles, Keith Lee, and Sheamus have captured the first two spots while two spots are still remaining.
Going by the source, Drew McIntyre will be soon be declared for one of those spots and also the leading man from the red side. This comes as a no-brainer as he was the first pick from this side during the Draft 2020. Also, he carried the show all the way since Wrestlemania 36 when the coronavirus pandemic was ongoing who deserves the honor more than anybody else. There’s no update on the team and leader from the Smackdown side, as of now.
WWE Smackdown Team Members For Survivor Series 2020 & Title Match Announced
Interestingly, the source also informed that Randy Orton winning the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre was not the original finish planned for the Hell in a Cell main event. McIntyre was supposed to retain and then call off the stretched feud with Orton. But Vince McMahon had to change the plans as they didn’t want McIntyre to face Reigns in a Champion vs Champion match at Survivor Series.
Plus, they also wanted The King of Claymore Country to be the leader of the red brand, as well,
“Were you upset about McIntyre losing the WWE Title at #HIAC? That wasn’t the original plan. McIntyre was set to retain. They changed those plans. Now Drew will be the Captain of TEAM RAW at Survivor Series,” mentioned Steve Carrier of Ringside News.
On a related note, Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio that Drew McIntyre wanted to do a crazy bump during Hell in a Cell. He was a big fan of watching Undertaker or Shawn Michaels doing stunts during the Cell showdowns and he just wanted to be part of a memorable spot, too.
