Becky Lynch is one of the top stars of WWE at this moment and she is often regarded as ‘The Man’ in the promotion. She is one of the best female stars WWE ever produced and she is a six times Women’s Champion and tomorrow she would be entering the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match as a favourite.
But did you ever wonder where her ‘The Man’ nickname derived from? Most of the fans would agree that she got this epic nickname from the incident where she broke her nose during the build up of Smackdown vs. RAW battle for Survivor Series where Nia Jax accidentally broke her nose.

The Evolution of a Character: Becky Lynch Opens Up About Where ‘The Man’ Came From
It might have been a botch from Nia Jax but it actually helped Becky to become a top star of WWE. Most of the fans might consider this incident as the origin of The Man character of Becky but she believes it was started by the fans at Money in the Bank 2018 where she participated in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Speaking on WWE’s After The Bell, the former champion said;
“The audience, thank god, have been with me. They’ve been with me on this journey. I have kind of a history with the audience and Money in the Bank. They’re kind of what made me The Man. When we look back at Money in the Bank 2018 and it was the upswell from the audience, any time I would climb that ladder, and there was no way that the office could ignore it.

“That’s really where The Man started, was from the audience responding to me kindly at Money in the Bank, and to reward them, to finally give them their reward and say, ‘Guys, it’s all been worth it’ while I climb that ladder in the O2, in front of my countrymen, in front of the people that I maybe wrestled in front of in little halls in London 20 years ago, it will be worth it. I feel like, yeah, we need it.”
Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match had a very strong line up where big stars like Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, and of course Becky Lynch competed in this ladder match. But ultimately, the match was won by ‘The Five Feet of Fury” Alexa Bliss.

Becky might not consider the Survivor Series incident as the beginning of her character of The Man but it definitely played a big role in building her as one of the top stars of the promotion. She won the first ever women’s WrestleMania main event, she won two titles at the same time, she was unstoppable during this spell of time.
