Sami Zayn is signed with WWE for more than a decade and he has been one of the most consistent mid card wrestlers in recent years. He started his WWE career through the NXT which is the development territory of WWE. He also won multiple championships in the promotion.

But the way WWE treated Sami Zayn throughout his career, nobody expected him to go over with the fans ever. Still, it happened. Last year, he became a part of the Bloodline storyline, the same story that is being considered the best story in wrestling history. It would not be wrong if we say it became the best after Sami became a part of it.

The Truth Unveiled: WWE’s Belief That Sami Zayn Wouldn’t Sustain as a Main Event Star

Sami was added to this storyline as a comedy part but surprisingly, he became the biggest attraction of it. The storyline also helped Sami to become the most over star of WWE during the time. His comedy timing was definitely one of the biggest reasons behind his massive success.

At Royal Rumble, his fame reached the sky. The Bloodline angle that was booked at Royal Rumble is already being considered the best storyline angle in wrestling history. Most of the people compared it to a cinema. From Sami’s betrayal to Jey Uso’s decline, it was just amazing to begin with.

Sami Zayn Was The Most Over Star Of WWE Earlier This Year

Sami became so over with the fans that WWE decided to feature him on the main event of WrestleMania 39’s night 1 where he won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship along with his best friend Kevin Owens. They are still holding the titles but unfortunately, it does not look like WWE has any big plans for him anymore.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter understands that WWE officials never had any big plans for Sami and whatever fame he earned was nothing but fluke according to them. Even after so much success in the recent months, WWE still does not see him as a top star. Here is what Meltzer wrote;

“But right now they are very protective of Rollins and Zayn often now loses on TV and they don’t see it as a big deal to beat him. It was a self-fulfilling prophesy as they always saw Zayn as just a guy, who got over as a fluke and they didn’t see him as having potential past a certain level, and when he got there, they “knew” it wouldn’t last, and booked it so it didn’t.”
