It’s since the 90s that the professional wrestling industry wanted to witness the battle between The Undertaker vs Sting. The two cornerstone figures in WWE and AEW respectively could have squared off in this fantasy warfare but these two had never crossed paths. Now one of them is perhaps coming out of retirement while the other has just announced his permanent hiatus.

If recent reports are to be believed then Sting vs The Undertaker could have happened in a cinematic bout, but Vince McMahon wasn’t interested in it. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Sting showed interest in a cinematic match against The Undertaker. But the idea was turned down by McMahon.

For whatever reasons, the WWE Chairman wasn’t interested in presenting that match. Plus, the factor that Sting was disqualified from in-ring action might have come into play. The WCW franchise player was down to come out of retirement for this particular match and he openly admitted the same during past interviews. But WWE didn’t listen to him.

It is only known that Sting wanted to do a Cinematic match with The Undertaker and it could have been a much better retirement option for the latter. But for whatever reason even when fans have wanted this bout to happen, for years, that match never had any appeal from McMahon’s point of view. His opinion is perhaps the same even after two decades since taking over WCW.

As of now, the chances of seeing the match are completely null since The Undertaker has officially announced his retirement at Survivor Series 2020 although he never mentioned that word. But even if he does resurface for more encounters, he can’t square off against The Stinger as he’s signed elsewhere.

The Vigilante has now arrived at All Elite Wrestling. During Winter is Coming, he first appeared on TNT TV that once uses to be his home during the Monday Night War era. It’s unclear if Sting will wrestle for AEW in a cinematic setting or in a proper match inside the squared circle. His appearance can certainly bring out some more options in professional wrestling but The Undertaker won’t be one of them.
