Given all her accolades in the past, Toni Storm was supposed to become a bonafide female superstar in the WWE. Her main roster arrival was preponed in the first place, expecting a big push on Smackdown. Nothing much happened as it eventually marked her exit from the company and she’s now trying to find a foothold in the All Elite Wrestling promotion.
The path for Toni Storm on Smackdown could have been entirely different before her WWE departure in December 2021. The New Zealand-born wrestler recently spoke with Chris Jericho on the Talk Is Jericho podcast and disclosed an intriguing storyline presented to her. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition during her short tenure on the blue brand.

Toni Storm featured in a couple of backstage segments with Rick Boogs which also involved a heel superstar in Dolph Ziggler. Apparently, that was supposed to be converted into a love triangle which could have earned the attention of the Smackdown debutant. However, things never materialized for that angle.
“They put me in a debut match. That seemed to go well. It seemed like something was going to happen and nothing really did,” Toni Storm said. “There was bits and pieces here and there, like, ‘Oh, you’re in love with Rick Boogs and the love triangle with Dolph Ziggler,’ and that never really went anywhere. Just bits and pieces here and there.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

Toni Storm was underutilized during her WWE career
After sitting out of action for a few months, WWE inserted the former NXT UK Women’s Champion into a title match feud with the then Smackdown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair in which she was buried by the top female superstar. This eventually led her to depression and the walkout from the WWE.
Before making her WWE main roster debut, Toni Storm began her wrestling career in Australia before moving to the United Kingdom where she competed for promotions like PROGRESS Wrestling and wXw in Germany. She also participated in multiple tours in Japan with World Wonder Ring Stardom.
Toni Storm started with the WWE in 2017 as she competed in the inaugural Mae Young Classic. She was then signed to NXT UK, reigning as the NXT UK Women’s Champion for 231 days. The 26-year-old was then inserted into NXT a year after winning the 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament before the main roster call-up came in mid-2021.
