During the closure of WWE’s attitude Era, The Rock and Triple H were seen as the biggest superstars to be on their TV screen. This was a phase when wrestling was becoming less popular in the mainstream world. With his greatest star power stone Cold Steve Austin on the shelf, Vince McMahon needed new star powers to be built.

The Rock vs. Triple H was such a feud that was scripted to get more eyes on the WWE TV product. These two stars eventually put up some mind-boggling matches for the World title or the Intercontinental title. The program will also remain one of the bests of the old school era. But there’s still something that is regretted and that’s the blow-off to this mega feud never happened at Wrestlemania.

During an appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, Triple H revisited that rivalry with The Rock. The two had delivered some benchmark matchups in the past but there’s only one regret that he has and that’s not facing him at Wrestlemania. That match was planned for the 2000 edition but then WWE ended up postponing that match due to creative reasons.

Triple H’s match against The Rock at Wrestlemania got canceled

Triple H said that the match between them at the Biggest Event of the Year would be canceled, due to the timing of the Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin’s returns. He said that they would get the chance to compete in a one-on-one Iron Match capacity at Judgment Day but they both were disappointed that they couldn’t pay off their heated long-term rivalry on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

“My only regret with the whole thing with The Rock is, in 2000 we were poised to have a match at WrestleMania one-on-one. And I think that would have been an epic thing for both of us in that moment, the timing of Taker’s return and Austin’s return. And Austin wasn’t quite ready yet,” Triple H added.

“Unfortunately, I always feel it’s the one thing… like we got to this unbelievably heated long-term rivalry and then never got to pay it off at the biggest platform possible. And I think Rock feels that way too.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

Triple H Regrets Not Facing The Rock At WWE’s Biggest Stage Wrestlemania 2

Several years later, Triple H vs. The Rock was planned to take place at WrestleMania 32 in 2016. This is said to be the reported reason why he would defeat Sting at WrestleMania 31 and continue the storyline to get booked against The Great One. But it didn’t happen due to the latter’s busy Hollywood commitment that didn’t allow him to compete in a full-length match.

The two also had a backstage confrontation around 2014 and tease a match between the two at Wrestlemania 30. It appears that they still wanted to have that due WrestleMania moment all these years later, but in the end, The Rock’s busy Hollywood schedule scrapped all those plans.
