WWE took the unpredictable route to confirm the Universal Championship match at Super ShowDown. Earlier, the speculation was that Brock Lesnar will cash-in his Money in the Bank contract to set up a Wrestlemania 35 rematch. He will face Seth Rollins once again for the title at the upcoming PPV show in the title match. However, he backed down at the very last moment leaving room for another superstar to take the contender’s spot and head to Super ShowDown.
As informed on WWE Raw, we received a number one contender’s match for the Universal Championship. He will challenge Seth Rollins at Super ShowDown for the title. It turned out to be a Fatal 4-Way match. It featured The Miz taking on Bobby Lashley, Braun Strowman, and Baron Corbin. Originally, AJ Styles was also in the match but he had to surrender due to an injury.
We learned from a backstage update that AJ Styles has picked up the shoulder injury at Money in the Bank. He might have popped a bone during the Universal Championship match against Seth Rollins. While delivering the interview, Baron Corbin attacked him from the back living him in an injured state. This may have been the confirmation that the Phenomenal One will be missing out WWE programming for sometimes. It was a storyline process to keep him out of the context.
The fatal-4-way match was in progress with an Elimination Rule tagged into it. However, it never came to exercise in reality. Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman have already been confirmed Super ShowDown opponents. So they targeted each other and took the fight to the backstage to eliminate themselves. The Miz tried to take out Baron Corbin with a pair of running double knees in the closing moments. But Corbin came back with an End of Days, out of nowhere to get the win.
With this victory, Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin for the Universal Championship at Super ShowDown is now official. You may check out the announcement from WWE.com,
“At WWE Super ShowDown, Seth Rollins will take on Baron Corbin in a Universal Championship showdown as part of an event that will be equivalent to or exceed WrestleMania. With it still uncertain as to when Brock Lesnar will cash in his coveted Money in the Bank contract on Rollins, Corbin outlasted Braun Strowman, The Miz and Bobby Lashley in a Fatal 4-Way Match to earn the right to challenge The Architect in Jeddah.”
