But then his AEW contract expired and he was forced to work on a handshake agreement with the company until wrapping up a feud with one great match against Sammy Guevara. Now the American Nightmare is moving on once again. Now there have been rumors about whether he will return to the WWE that’s considered to be his home.
Vince McMahon’s company has been in touch with him as he’s done spending a few years with Tony Khan. An update to the situation from Wrestling Observer suggested that WWE creative is reportedly working on plans for the former TNT Champion. There’s no timeframe for this particular return to happen in WWE, but the Observer report noted that unless the deal falls through, the superstars will be returning soon.

Ringside News has also been able to confirm the same news. In their update, the source was informed that “Cody, as of an hour ago, still on internal documents for WrestleMania.” No other information is available regarding Cody Rhodes since WWE might remain tight-lipped about this him. It also indirectly suggests that the company must be having some bigger plans for him.

In a contradictory update, Bodyslam has reported that the initial talks around Cody Rhodes for a WWE return have ‘fizzled out’. There’s even speculation going on that the Grandson of a Plumber may end up returning to All Elite Wrestling now that AEW President Tony Khan has purchased ROH Wrestling. “While asking around about the purchase of Ring of Honor, sources have also confirmed to me that the reports of Brandi and Cody Rhodes leaving AEW was very much real life, and was not a work.
Additionally, I was told that discussions had been ongoing between Cody and WWE, but I was told ‘those conversations have since fizzled out.’
One source indicated that there is hope that Cody can be brought back into the AEW fold.
The idea was floated to me that there might be a possibility again, with a new role involving the ROH acquisition.”
There’s been speculation on WWE possibly postponing Cody Rhodes’ return off until the RAW After WrestleMania, which is dubbed as the biggest TV show of the year. Nothing at this point is confirmed but the speculated return on that RAW seems more likely than showing up at WrestleMania 38. Cody’s wife, Brandi Rhodes isn’t likely to accompany her husband to the WWE.
