As seen in the main event segment of the post-Summerslam edition of Smackdown, Roman Reigns came out with The Usos for a promo segment. He reminded us of the big Last Man Standing win over Brock Lesnar at Summerslam via which he could still be holding the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. He then confronted his next challenger, Drew McIntyre on the show.
But suddenly, Karrion Kross and Scarlett returned to WWE on that night. The former 2-time NXT Champion attacked Drew McIntyre and then signaled that he was coming after Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and his two titles. Scarlett also placed a sand clock in the ring in front of the champion to send him a message.

Then the very next week on Smackdown, Kross claimed that Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns are the chosen ones in the WWE while he and Scarlett are the forgotten ones. They have waited for the perfect time to strike and will also wait for the right time to gun for the world titles in the WWE.
As reported earlier, WWE has been rumored to split the Undisputed World Title and Kross was expected to challenge Roman Reigns for one of the World Titles. Clash at the Castle could have been the place but WWE kept the McIntyre vs. Reigns lineup intact.

Roman Reigns vs. Karrion Kross didn’t happen at WWE Extreme Rules
Then Extreme Rules 2022 PLE in October was also speculated to see Roman Reigns vs. Karrion Kross but chances of seeing that match were extremely low given that Roman was always out from that show. According to the Wrestling Observer, that will either take place on an episode of SmackDown or at Survivor Series 2022 in late November,
“Reigns is not booked on Extreme Rules in Philadelphia at this point. If they go with Reigns vs. Kross, as things stand right now, it would either be TV or the earliest would be Survivor Series barring the weekly circumstances involved in wrestling.”
According to Fightful’s paywall, Karrion Kross was inserted into the feud between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns as WWE always intended to give the returnee a big push. He was obviously not favored on the main roster during the Vince McMahon-era but with Triple H leading the creative team, things have positively changed in his favor.
