Sasha Banks ended up winning the RAW Women’s Championship on the bygone episode of Monday Night Raw. It was a controversial title change, to say the least as she never won the match via pinfall or submission. The stipulation that the title could change hands via count-out or disqualification played the key role as Asuka got counted out while trying to save Kairi Sane from Bayley’s backstage attack.
Sasha Banks is still gloating about the championship win as she created history alongside Bayley on Raw. These two have now created a rare occasion where they hold the singles division belts as well as the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
Their gimmick of being the Golden Role Models has no been justified and they have enough reasons to celebrate. However, it looks like WWE originally didn’t want to make Banks the champion on Raw.

They always had the intentions of Asuka walking into SummerSlam as RAW Women’s Champion but then the plans suddenly changed during the tapings. During Wrestling Observer Radio (transcription by Ringside News), it was informed that WWE decided to have the title change and give it to Sasha Banks right before the show tapings of Raw began,
“Originally Asuka was supposed to defend the title at SummerSlam against whoever injured Kairi and that was as of at last Sunday night or Monday morning of the tapings when they tore all that up.”

As reported earlier, the previous speculations were that either Natalya or Shayna Baszler would face Asuka at SummerSlam for the championship. Natalya was the original choice in the contender’s spot but then she was not available due to husband’s sickness and potential COVID concerns.
Baszler then entered the scene and she was supposed to replace Nattie and replace the Queen of Harts in that spot. Now those plans seem to be completely scrapped with Sasha Banks winning the belt. As for Baszler, she’s likely entered a new program with Nia Jax on Raw. There’s still no update on who Banks would defend the title against at SummerSlam.
