With Wrestlemania 38 approaching closer, this is the time that WWE would like to exercise a lot of plans to get executed. Shane McMahon was also supposed to be a part of those pitches but some unfortunate incidents forced him to go out of the company following the Royal Rumble event.
Shane has been used as a special attraction since after his return to the WWE back in 2016. He hasn’t been involved in any of the prime title matches since then but at least for the early part of 2022, he was been considered for an interesting match. Apparently, WWE thought him to be the next challenger for the WWE Championship.

Ringside News reported that Shane was considered to be in a match against Bobby Lashley. There “was an idea floated around before Day 1.” However, the “idea was switched to something else” once that match was over. When Shane was back on board for The Rumble, the rumor was gaining steam that Shane might battle Lashley at WrestleMania 38 but the creative team didn’t entertain that idea for too long.

Big match canceled at Wrestlemania 38
As reported, WWE changed up creative plans for Shane following The Rumble. At one point, he was slated to work at Wrestlemania 38 and Elimination Chamber 2022. However, he is no longer slated to work the February 19th event in Saudi Arabia. Shane-O-Mac was replaced by Austin Theory for that night in that Chamber match to be held for the WWE Championship.
Dave Meltzer did his weekly appearance on the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast to talk about the situation around Shane. He noted that Shane got mad when Seth Rollins was pulled from the Royal Rumble match. At one point, the idea was for Shane and Seth to interact so that they can also plant seeds for another considered WrestleMania 38 feud,
“I think the idea was [Shane and Seth] were going to start a feud in the Royal Rumble. They were going to continue it in the Chamber match and build to a big blow-off at WrestleMania, and Vince pulled Seth from the Rumble. So Shane got really mad because that was his program and then that’s where everything escalated from that point.”
