The one on one match between Sami Zayn and television celebrity Johnny Knoxville for WrestleMania 38 actually came out of nowhere. But this is slowly becoming a fashion right now that celebrities outside of WWE are getting involved in WWE matches especially for WrestleMania.
There had been a lot of criticism regarding this match. A lot of fans claimed that WWE canceled a big space for a better match. A lot of fans were expecting to see matches where the mid card championships were defended. And when there is no mid card Championship booking and they are having this match on the card, it definitely seemed unfair.
WrestleMania 38 Results – Sami Zayn Vs. Johnny Knoxville
Nobody was expecting a huge match either. Knoxville is not a wrestler, he never was. Plus he is already 51, there is no way he could deliver anything special. Chances were really thin that Sami Zayn could carry this match anyway. This had been the match with most low expectation.
The feud between the duo started before the Royal Rumble pay per view event after Knoxville kept on harrassing Sami Zayn for absolutely no reason. But since Zayn is a heel, we were supposed to boo him. Knoxville participated in the Royal Rumble match and got eliminated by Zayn. The feud continued as Knoxville cost Zayn his IC title. By then the match got official for tonight, WrestleMania 38.
This was the third match of the night and there were no expectations from this match, honestly. But surprisingly, it was a fun match. Maybe that was all because it was an Anything Goes match. Kudos to Knoxville for taking so much damage at this age even not being a wrestler.
It got a booking of fifteen minutes which was completely unnecessary. It was a total waste of time. Sami Zayn carried the match in an excellent way. He dominated the match. But the jackass teammates of Knoxville got involved to help him and they helped him throughout the match. It was a fun segment overall. Knoxville won by pinfall.
