It was during the February 27 episode of Monday Night Raw that Brock Lesnar vs. Omos was confirmed for Wrestlemania 39. This was a surprise announcement on WWE’s part as the fans expected names like Gunther, Bray Wyatt, or even Bobby Lashley to square off in a match against the top WWE Superstar. In the end, a newbie like Omos was put against the veteran.
A report from WWFOldSchool informs that WWE wanted to book Lesnar in a fresh match at WrestleMania 39. This is the reason they didn’t go for Lesnar vs. Lashley, match number four at the Show of Shows.
WWE NXT Stand And Deliver 2023 Main Event Championship Match Announced
Speaking of fresh matches, Lesnar vs. Gunther or Lesnar vs. Wyatt could’ve easily been booked. However, it was noted that the head of the WWE creative team, Triple H didn’t want Gunther and Wyatt to take a clean pinfall loss at this moment in their career.

Reason behind Gunther vs. Lesnar not happening
Also, Gunther is the Intercontinental Champion right now, and in case of his loss at Wrestlemania 39, could have caused the title to change hands. Gunther could still get pinned in a rumored Triple Threat Match at Wrestlemania 39. But then again, WWE didn’t want to put the IC Title on Lesnar since it doesn’t fit into Lesnar’s part-time schedule.
Since WWE didn’t want Wyatt to lose clean in his second televised match since his return, Lesnar’s match against Wyatt was also taken out of the equation. This reportedly led to Vince McMahon picking none other than Omos to face Lesnar at Wrestlemania 39.
Brock Lesnar needs to win Wrestlemania 39 for a reason
Another interesting aspect of booking Brock Lesnar at the biggest event of the year was that he hasn’t won a match at WrestleMania in 5 years. His last win came in 2018 against Roman Reigns. Lesnar needs a much-needed victory at Wrestlemania 39 especially after coming out weak of the feud against Bobby Lashley.
Heading into Wrestlemania 39, Lesnar’s recent Wrestlemania match outcomes are given below,
WrestleMania 35 – lost the Universal Championship to Seth Rollins
WrestleMania 36 – lost the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre in the main event of Night 2
WrestleMania 38 – lost the WWE Championship to Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the main event of Night 2 (Lesnar wasn’t a part of Wrestlemania 37)
