WWE WrestleMania Backlash was the first pay per view event after WrestleMania and generally this pay per view event does not deliver anything special. There was not enough expectations from the event of 2022 either. But the matches that had been booked had high potential and some of the matches had the potential to become container for match of the year. Let us go through the event and see what happened in it.

Match 1 – Cody Rhodes defeated Seth Rollins

WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022 Results & Ratings

When you see this match as the show opener you know you are going to get something special. And indeed this match was special. It was booked for 21 minutes and what an amazing match it was. There were back to back near falls which made the match really exciting. Cody won the match by a roll up which might sound like a bad idea but after having such an amazing match, it did not affect much. And it was good for Seth Rollins as well.

Match 2 – Omos defeated Bobby Lashley

Here is another rematch from WrestleMania 38. In their previous encounter, Lashley broke the undefeated streak of Omos. During the build up of their second encounter, Lashley’s manager MVP decided to part ways with him and team up with Omos.

About tonight’s match, it was booked for 9 minutes and it was a good match. Omos dominated the match once again. This time he won the match, even though it was not a clean win. MVP hit Lashley with a cane which the referee did not notice and Omos pinned him with a Two Handed Chokeslam.

Match 3 – Edge defeated AJ Styles

This was also a rematch from WrestleMania 38 but most of the fans were looking forward to this match not because it could be the match of the night but there were strong rumours that they were going to reveal the third member of the Judgement Day stable of Edge. And that is exactly what happened. Damian Priest tried to interfere the match who got attacked by Finn Balor.

As the referee was distracted, a hooded person attacked AJ who was on the pole position. Edge took the advantage of the situation and defeated him with a neck lock. After the match, the hooded figure turned out to be Rhea Ripley who received massive pop from the fans. It had been already rumored. We believe it was a great decision to pair Rhea Ripley with this stable.

Match 4 – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship – Ronda Rousey defeated Charlotte Flair in an I Quit Match to become new champion

This was the 4th rematch from WrestleMania backlash in a row and this match did not disappoint either. It was the only championship match of the event and also the only stipulated match. But honestly it was not as good as most of the fans expected it would be. The match was booked for 17 minutes and there was enough intensity to hook everyone to the match as long as it went on. Ronda locked Charlotte in a cross Arm Bar through a chair and Charlotte finally said I Quit.

Match 5 – Madcap Moss defeated Happy Corbin

This was the match of WrestleMania Backlash with the least expectations but surprisingly it was a good match. Even though it was nothing out of the world. It was booked for nearly 9 minutes and no one in particular dominated the match. We are not sure if most of the fans were looking forward to see this match because it was mostly a Smackdown standard match that got booked in a pay per view. They could have booked some other match instead of this one. But it is good to see Madcap getting some push, finally.  Madcap pinned Corbin with the Sunset Flip roll up.

Match 6 – The Bloodline defeated RK-Bro and Drew McIntyre

And here it is, the main event of the night. WWE changed the match during the time. Previously it was said to be two different matches, One For The Tag Team Championship unification, and other one for the Universal Championship. We would not say if it was the best match of the night but it was definitely one of the best.

It was booked for 22 minutes and it started with a slow pace. But at the end picked up pace and it turned out to be a fun match. But throughout it was a predictable match. As long as Roman Reigns is involved, everybody know he was going to take the victory for his side. And that is exactly what happened. Roman pinned Riddle with a Spear. The Bloodline celebrated as this year’s WrestleMania Backlash went off air.

Overall, it was a good event. There were only six matches but none of the matches were really disappointing. We can say all of the matches were quite entertaining and they were all pay per view standard matches. But there are flaws as all of the matches were really predictable and it was a big drawback. It shows that WWE is failing to book engaging and unpredictable storylines. We give it 2.5 stars out of 5.
