A huge change has been announced to the WWE Championship match at the upcoming WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view. Previously, Drew McIntyre vs. WWE Champion Bobby Lashley for the title was announced for the show but it will now be a Triple Threat Match also featuring Braun Strowman who was gunning for a title shot for quite sometimes.

This week’s WWE Raw came, live with the builds for the first-ever WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view event where the opening match featured former RETRIBUTION members T-BAR and MACE competing in a two-on-one Handicap Match against Braun Strowman. It was disqualified as MACE and T-BAR hammered away on their opponent without hearing the referee’s warnings.

Then a tag team match went down on the show with Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre teaming against the team of MACE and T-BAR. The match witnessed a count-out win handed to the heels as the babyfaces failed to enter the ring within the referee’s ten-count. Strowman was irate about the outcome who took out McIntyre with a Running PowerSlam before leaving the ring.

As the issues between Strowman and McIntyre continued on Raw, the latter demanded a singles contest to be made between them. WWE Official Adam Pearce made the match official for the main event of the show. Strowman later confronted Pearce and urged him to be put in the WrestleMania Backlash match if he could beat McIntyre. His wish was granted as Pearce made it official.

Strowman ended up defeating McIntyre in that main event match, which saw interferences by Lashley, MVP, T-BAR, and MACE, once again proving that they must have been working as an alliance. McIntyre was ready to execute the Claymore Kick on Strowman when MACE and T-BAR distracted him. They had been knocked off the apron but Strowman dropped McIntyre with his Running Powerslam to get the win and secure his spot at WrestleMania Backlash.

Speaking of the pay-per-view, it will take place on May 16 from the WWE ThunderDome at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. WWE Backlash has been an earlier tradition to continue the WrestleMania fallout but as mentioned above, they’re using the name WrestleMania Backlash for the very first time. As of now, the match card stands as follows,
