This was the rightful main event of Backlash 2023 and this might have been the most anticipated match of the night as well. One thing WWE never cleared, why Lesnar attacked Cody that night. We can understand the reason behind booking this match and we understand what is going behind the kayfabe, but they failed to build a proper storyline for this match.

The match, honestly, was better than what we expected. It was booked for 10 minutes only, but in this short amount of time, it became a bloody mess. Brock got busted open after his head hit the exposed turnbuckle. He bled a lot after this accidental injury.

WWE Backlash 2023 – Brock Lesnar Vs. Cody Rhodes – Analysis

This blood might have been accidental but they sold this blood pretty well which is quite surprising. This is something you would not see in this long 15 years of PG Era so often. There were actually rumours of the return of blood, is WWE actually bringing back blood?

About the match, it was entertaining. It was not much different from the rest of the recent Brock Lesnar matches. The American Nightmare did an excellent job in this match as well. At the end of the match, Brock was trying to lock Cody’s arm in an Arm Lock submission move, Cody countered it into a pin and defeated the Beast.

Was this match predictable? Definitely it was. Why was this match predictable? There are actually two reasons; they wanted to keep Cody Rhodes as the top babyface of the promotion and they wanted the fans to believe that he is main event push is not over yet even after his WrestleMania 39 defeat.

There is another reason, they want to book the American Nightmare as a legit competitor for the new World Heavyweight Championship that going to be an exclusive property of Monday Night RAW and he would be on RAW. We are expecting to see this new title changing hands often, and Cody would definitely hold the title at least once.
