WWE is celebrating the 500-day anniversary of Roman Reigns as WWE Universal Champion. On this occasion, the official WWE’s Twitter account confirmed the milestone with the caption: “500 Days of acknowledging our #Universal Champion @Roman Reigns.”

Roman Reigns captured the title by defeating “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat Match at Payback 2020. He originally returned at Summerslam 2020 and got himself aligned with Paul Heyman. This helped to set up the Triple Threat Title match where Reigns pinned Strowman to win the title. From that night, the Tribal Chief persona also started unfolding in the WWE.

During this 500-day reign, Roman Reigns has successfully defended his title against the likes of Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan), Edge, John Cena, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, Brock Lesnar, Cesaro, and Kevin Owens. As reported earlier, the top WWE Superstar remains unpinned for more than two years. He has not lost a singles match since Baron Corbin defeated him at TLC 2019.

“I’d like to take this time to thank you guys for coming out,” Roman Reigns said. “We all know what’s going on with this pandemic. I just want you all to stay safe. I want you to protect yourselves so that we can see you all next time. Also, goodnight and thank you.”

At present, Roman Reigns is just days away from crossing Brock Lesnar’s record for being the longest-reigning Universal Champion in history. The Beast Incarnate held the title for 503 days between WrestleMania 33 and SummerSlam 2018, where he would eventually go on to lose to Reigns, himself. A couple of days later, The Head of Table will not only break Lesnar’s record but will also become the longest-reigning world champion in WWE of the modern era.
