WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan went through her latest title defense at Clash at the Castle 2022 event. It came against a top heel of the blue brand, Shayna Baszler who vowed to break the champion’s hands due to the prior injury. But, the champion ultimately prevailed following their title match.
Morgan vs. Baszler was the third overall match on the Clash at the Castle 2022 card which started with a quick pace. Morgan landed a flurry of strikes and moves until the set of actions proceeded outside of the ring. Shayna took control of the match by sending her into the barricade.

Being a technical wrestler, Baszler wanted to slow down the match’s pace and she was successful in doing so. After suffering some punishments, Morgan, being the babyface, countered things in a fast way only to be locked into the Kirifuda Clutch. Morgan was able to get out of the hold and then hit her with the ObLivion finisher for a clean pin-fall win over Baszler at Clash at the Castle 2022.

Liv Morgan prevailed over Baszler at Clash at the Castle 2022
This win was much-needed for Morgan as fans doubted her ability heading into Clash at the Castle 2022. She was being portrayed as a weak babyface heading into the UK PLE against strong adversaries like Shayna and her FourHorsewomen partner Ronda Rousey.
Clash at the Castle 2022 also marked the first clean title defense for Morgan. Back in the co-main event of WWE SummerSlam 2022, she retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey but it occurred due to a controversial call from the match referee.
The finish of this match saw Ronda trapping Liv in the Armbar. Due to Ronda’s shoulders being on the mat, the referee began counting on Morgan’s favor and he never saw that Liv tapped out to the Armbar. Morgan was awarded the victory via pinfall.
Rousey wasn’t happy about this and she attacked both Liv and the referee after the match. WWE then proceeded to fine and suspend Rousey for her actions. But as seen on Smackdown, this past Friday, that suspension has been lifted. Now that Clash at the Castle 2022 is over, it’s likely that Rousey would be coming after the Smackdown Women’s Title, again.
