WWE Day 1 removed the yearly tradition of TLC PPV in December. The last month of 2021 didn’t receive any WWE Specials on the WWE Network as there will be a brand new special on the New Year’s Day. Typically, the PPV buys around this time have been low given this is the Holiday season where people like to spend time with family and friends.

Hence, WWE Day 1 was also not doing initially well when it came down to PPV buys. But things changed after WWE announced Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship as the main event of the pay-per-view on January 1, 2022.

WrestleTix added, “Strong movement of late for this show. Upper decks have expanded.”

As reported earlier, WWE Day 1 is expected to be an annual PPV tradition from now on which is the brainchild of WWE President Nick Khan. Hence, they wanted to host the inaugural edition with a bang. This is the reason why the biggest match possible for it – Reigns vs. Lesnar was booked for it instead of the first Big-Four event of 2022, Royal Rumble in late January.
