With co-WWE CEO heavily backing things up, WWE Day 1 was supposed to be an annual tradition in the company, moving forward. But in changed circumstances, it may end up being one of the rare premium live events to have taken place, only once in WWE history.
WWE Day 1 pay-per-view/premium live event started its journey in the WWE calendar by replacing the original December event, TLC (Tables, Ladders & Chairs). Due to the success, WWE considered making it an annual event. And hence the 2023 edition was announced for Sunday, January 1, from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

To make things even bigger, a poster featuring top WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar was also out so that WWE could start things this year, in a big way. However, it now appears that the PPV schedule has been altered, yet again, causing WWE Day to get entirely scrapped.

Lots of competition scrapped WWE Day 1 2023 edition
According to Wresltenomics, WWE Day 1 2023 edition won’t become a reality. Ending all the previous speculations, WWE doesn’t look like to make any kind of re-scheduling to the event but since they will have a lot of competition on January 1st, the event has been canceled. But an official reason for the cancellation wasn’t noted.
“WWE Day 1 premium live event isn’t taking place, according to multiple sources. The event originally scheduled for January 1, 2023 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta isn’t being rescheduled or rebranded.
There’s no PLE for WWE expected between Survivor Series on November 26 and Royal Rumble on January 28. We couldn’t confirm a reason but the cancelation could be related to appeasing WWE’s business partner NBCUniversal.”
In the main event of WWE Day 1 on January 1 of 2022, Big E lost the WWE Championship at the hands of Brock Lesnar in a Fatal-5-Way match. At this point, the updated PLE schedule for WWE remains as follows,
