WWE Day 1 will be the next pay-per-view event in WWE programming which kicks off the PPV schedule for 2022 in style. After the initial slow ticket-selling trend, WWE announced Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar to collide again with the Universal Title hanging in the balance. Following this announcement, the tickets are being moved at a fast pace and the event is expected to be a sell-out.
Going by the current speculations, Roman Reigns is expected to retain his Universal Championship against The Beast Incarnate at WWE Day 1. Apparently, a Smackdown wrestler will help out the champion in retaining and the ongoing storyline also supports the idea.

Sami Zayn won a Battle Royal to earn a Universal Championship match opportunity against Roman Reigns. Zayn wanted to get his title match at the WWE Day 1 PPV on January 1, 2022, but Brock Lesnar forced him to get his Title match on a recently bygone episode SmackDown, so that Lesnar can face the Universal Champion at WE Day 1.
Eventually, Lesnar would attack Zayn before his match against Roman, which resulted in Reigns quickly defeating Zayn with a Spar and the Guillotine Chokehold submission. Then on last week’s SmackDown, Lesnar once again attacked Zayn with an F5, who was sitting in a wheelchair, recovering from the attack from the week prior.
WWE Day 1 Title Match to have interferences
On Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry speculated that Zayn may end up having a deal where he would get a proper Universal Title match against Roman but in that case, he would have to help The Tribal Chief in defeating Lesnar at WWE Day 1,
“Maybe the revenge factor is in. You’re talking about turning the business on its ear, with all the stuff that’s going on, imagine the Sami parade if he pulled the rug from under and there was some underlying deal with Paul Heyman that would get him a title shot.
See, that’s how my brain works. I want everybody to think, like, ‘That was crazy!’ And we don’t get that much.”

While no source has disclosed the match outcome at WWE Day 1, Zayn could interfere with the title match, theoretically. He was attacked, twice by The Beast and now it’s time for redemption. Also, an unclean finish will help WWE to set up another Reigns vs. Lesnar rematch at Wrestlemania 38.
