WWE Day 1 is a brand new PPV event that will kick things off in a big way for the WWE in the year 2022. This New Year’s show will be a fresh outing for WWE Raw and Smackdown superstars where the red brand announced the potential headliner of the night in a Triple Threat encounter.
Originally, Big E was supposed to defend his WWE Title in a singles bout on WWE Day 1 event. But then Kevin Owens has been included into the mix as the third man in that main event title match for the upcoming pay-per-view. The triple threat contest will continue the ongoing storyline between Rollins and E over the WWE title as fans continue to wonder why KO is being used in this slot.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that there is a big reason to insert Owens in the title picture who could very well be on his way out of the company. So, he will digest the pinfall loss without hurting the strong status of Owens and Rollins. The WWE creative team wants to stretch the ongoing feud after WWE Day 1, and hurting Kevin makes the most sense en route to his departure.

Big E favorite to retain at WWE Day 1 PPV
That being said, the singles bout between E and Rollins will take place following WWE Day 1, possibly at Rumble,
“This allows them to stretch the feud out between Big E and Seth Rollins, because Kevin Owens can get pinned and they can keep the feud going. Because on that side, as long as Big E is a babyface champion its gonna be tough to put Edge in there — I mean, who is there other than Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens, and Kevin Owens we don’t know how long Kevin Owens is gonna be there. His contract is coming up at the end of January after the Royal Rumble, and then he’ll have a decision to make.”
This week’s WWE Raw opened with the info from Rollins that he will face E in a singles bout at WWE Day 1. Then Rollins defeated Finn Balor with the stomp after which Kevin Owens told Rollins that WWE Official Adam Pearce informed him that he would get added to the WWE Championship match if he beats Big E in the non-title bout, later the night.
Owens left Rollins fuming by attacking him at ringside during the bout. In return, Rollins got involved and pounced on Owens, accidentally allowing Owens to get the win via disqualification. That being said, the title match is all set for WWE Day 1 on January 1, 2022, from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
