Batista’s role in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise earned him the mainstream popularity he was looking for once his WWE career came to an end. This helped him to get fame under the real name of Dave Bautista while a huge fanbase was also created as a movie star. But perhaps that meaty role is about to end in the near future.
Drax The Destroyer is something that both he and his fanbase like to be a part of but his contract is intact for a couple more appearances as the Marvel superhero. A spin-off based on this character won’t be happening. That being said, the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy could see the end of Batista’s role in the franchise.
Dana Brooke Revealed Why Relation With WWE Legend Batista Didn’t Work
While speaking with Digital Spy, Batista said that the film director James Gunn wanted to do a spin-off featuring Drax and Mantis characters. But Disney doesn’t look forward to fitting it into the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite Gunn’s trying to get the movie done, the former WWE Champion hasn’t heard anything positive about it since.

Batista’s Drax will be seen in the next Thor movie
As of now, Batista is scheduled to return as Drax The Destroyer for Thor: Love And Thunder and then he will reprise the role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3rd volume. After that, his contractual obligations with Marvel will be over and the belief is that Drax won’t be needed for any further purpose.
“I don’t know what the script of the third film is, to be honest with you. There was a script years ago that obviously is going to have to change because the whole direction of the Marvel universe has changed. There were talks for a while about a Drax and Mantis film,” Batista revealed.

“It was really because it was James Gunn’s idea. He really wanted to do a Drax and Mantis film. He laid it out to me. I thought it was such a brilliant idea, but I haven’t heard any follow-up from the studio. I don’t think they’re very interested, or it doesn’t fit into the way they have things mapped out. But other than that, no. I mean, as far as my obligations, I’ve got Guardians 3, and that’s probably going to be the end of Drax.”
Disney could obviously ink a new deal with Batista if they want to utilize Drax the Destroyer for some more films but there’s no such guarantee. Meanwhile, The Animal will seek some other big roles with some other production house. We’ll have to wait and see if James Gunn can make Disney agree on making the Drax and Mantis film, a reality.
