WWE hosted the monumental Women’s Royal Rumble match that took place on January 28th (Sunday). The 31st edition of this annual event of the company made its return to the Wells Fargo Center at Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

This year, one additional Rumble match happened to give a female superstar the opportunity to headline the showcase of immortals by virtue of a marquee championship match.

Setting up the Women’s Royal Rumble match can be considered as the first step while letting the female superstars be a part of the main event of Wrestlemania.

In recent times, numerous members of the Raw and Smackdown women’s division spoke up about getting the spotlight at the biggest event of the year which was always captured by the male superstars.

Hopefully, the tradition will alter with the upcoming edition of the show in New Orleans, Louisiana.

To make the occasion even more auspicious, numerous legends from the bygone era entered the match raising the stakes high.

The match was scheduled at the very last of the evening for the same reason so that the women’s can be the focal point.

A plethora of names like Trish Stratus, Lita, Molly Holly, Torrie Wilson, Vickie Guerrero, Kelly Kelly, The Bella Twins, Michelle McCool was added to stack-up the card which was a pleasant scene for the fans.

Initially, it was thought that so many names were called up to fill up the 30 women card on the night. But, there was an additional reason to it, as well.

As reported by cagesideseats.com, filming a documentary on the Women’s Evolution was another reason behind it. It is supposed to be aired as an original show on the WWE Network in the near future.

Check out the updates from SportsKeeda.com about the same:

“It is but natural that WWE would want to film this historic night, featuring the past, present, and future of their Women’s Division. Together, these women fought against all odds to bring the division at par with the men of the company. We suppose that the documentary that is being filmed will be used for a Network Special.”

Previously, WWE released another documentary for the Women’s Revolution that began back in 2015, officially culminating different gimmick-based matches, going forward.

The Women’s Royal Rumble is going to be another landmark in this program that has been documented for good reasons.
