WWE bringing back Goldberg whenever they needed isn’t a welcoming thing for a better portion of the fans. The former WCW franchise player is considered to be over with his prime days at an age of 55. Hence, booking him in top matches for PPV events might not be a smart choice for them. But that’s not the case for the WWE who, at the end of the day, considers money-making by all means.

One such instance occurred at Super ShowDown 2020 where Goldberg defeated The Fiend Bray Wyatt to win the second Universal Championship of his career. The move of making The Fiend digest a pinfall loss was discussed for a long time. But WWE didn’t have a problem with that especially given the amount of money they collected from that event.

Goldberg has always been a money-maker for the WWE

Same was the case in February 2020 around Super ShowDown when Goldberg ended up defeating The Fiend in a highly controversial move. But WWE ended up making $40 million from it. The amount was revealed on the Strictly Business podcast where former WCW President Eric Bischoff also noted that the wrestling business is all about the money and booking the WWE Hall of Famer was the right decision.

“You’re gonna give the customer what the customer wants for $40 million bucks. You’re the chairman of the board of a publicly held company. Are you going to have to answer to your shareholders because you turned down 40 f**king million dollars because you didn’t want a character to lose?

$40 Million dollars! That’s a class-action lawsuit, you gotta do what you gotta do!”

Moving on, Goldberg would go on to drop his title to Braun Strowman at Wrestlemania 36. Originally, the plan behind crowning him with the Universal Title at Super ShowDown was sketched since WWE wanted to put him into a match against Roman Reigns. But that match was eventually delayed. At Elimination Chamber 2022, Reigns defeated Goldberg to retain his WWE Universal Championship.
