Proving himself to be a strong champion, Kofi Kingston put his championship on the line for two straight nights. Last night, The WWE Champion defended his title, yet again against two superstars from Monday Night Raw. AJ Styles kicked off this week’s episode using the wild-card rule introduced by Vince McMahon. Sami Zayn also joined him talking trash about the WWE Universe. Soon the prime champion of Smackdown arrived on the scene volunteering himself to a title match.

So a triple threat match was underway on Smackdown main event where Kofi Kingston defended against both AJ Styles and Sami Zayn. Kevin Owens interfered the match attacking Xavier Woods from behind trying to cause distraction. Kofi neutralized AJ hitting a Trouble in Paradise but Sai caught him with a Blue Thunder Bomb. He followed up with two more but Kofi still kicked out! While going for a fourth one, Kofi Kingston landed the Trouble in Paradise on Sami to retain his championship.

Kevin Owens showed his true colors one week after the Superstar Shakeup by turning heel against Kofi Kingston. It’s not something new for a man like him to betray his friends. We have seen him doing so in the past to Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho to build quite a bad reputation. So the WWE Champion made a mistake by depending a babyface-turned Owens in the post-Wrestlemania season.

But Kofi Kingston sought redemption on last week’s show by pouncing on Kevin Owens. So, WWE.com predicted an address by Owens on Smackdown,

“Kevin Owens got a taste of his own medicine last week when WWE Champion Kofi Kingston launched a massive retaliatory attack on KO to close out SmackDown LIVE. The fired-up Kingston, who was still fuming after Owens’ ambushes on both him and Xavier Woods in recent weeks, had Owens reeling to such a degree that KO ultimately bailed. However, Owens will now respond to The Dreadlocked Dynamo’s attack.”

However, Owens pretended to go back home and did come back just to hurt back Xavier Woods. His efforts to cost Kofi the title opportunity did not come to fruition. Prior to this, Kofi Kingston also appeared on this week’s episode of WWE Raw. He defended his WWE Championship successfully against the returning Daniel Bryan in a Wrestlemania rematch. But he had the least time to celebrate as another big match was waiting for him on Smackdown. Thankfully, the babyface superstar has been able to retain, again.
