WWE Money in the Bank added another solid matchup to the match card on this week’s episode of WWE Raw. A steel cage match will take place at the PPV event between The Miz and Shane McMahon. The Miz was the one to issue the challenge which the younger McMahon accepted and thereby the match buildup started. Later, WWE.com confirmed the major attraction for the upcoming show with the following statements,

“At WrestleMania, The Miz and Shane McMahon could not be contained by the ring or anything else, as they tore into each other with unbridled fury in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. At WWE Money in the Bank, it will be the exact opposite, as the two Tag Team Champions turned bitter rivals will clash in the brutal confines of a Steel Cage. Tune in to find out who prevails in the Steel Cage when WWE Money in the Bank streams live on the award-winning WWE Network on Sunday, May 19 at 7 ET/4 PT.”

Now, it’s pretty odd to see Shane McMahon competing in one of the PPVs that are not part of the big-four events of the year. He is one of the marquee superstars from the active roster who mostly compete in shows like Wrestlemania, Survivor Series kind of shows to hype those up. With Wrestlemania just passed by, we barely expected him to come back to in-ring competition at the least amount of time. But it will happen at the Money in the Bank PPV event on May 19th.

The Dirty Sheets noted that tickets for Money in the Bank PPV are barely moving. Hence, WWE needed to add some special attractions to the show to boost up the rate of ticket sales. There’s very few on the roster who can address this issue other than Shane McMahon. So WWE officials inserted him into the show and added the Steel Cage stipulation. This ensures that he may perform some death-defying stunts which are mouth-watering for the audience.

Additionally, there are rumors ongoing that WWE may crown Shane McMahon with one of the prime championships. He may pick up either of the WWE or the Universal championship in due course. This will ensure a throwback character to the corporate persona that Vince McMahon used to play with the championship during the attitude era. So making Shane compete in frequent PPV matches could set him up for a future title run. In that case, he may pick up a second consecutive win against The Miz at Money in the Bank.
