WWE News: Vince McMahon Rejected A Storyline Of Dean Ambrose & AJ Lee

At this time, the career direction of Dean Ambrose is not looking good, at all. His other two contemporaries from the Shield are in some marquee feuds whereas he was out of an impactful feud for the Wrestlemania season.

This has happened ever since he picked up the Intercontinental title from the Miz back in January. He fell victim of several bad bookings which even sidelined him from the Wrestlemania main show. This condition did not improve even after the grandest show was over. However, things might change with The Miz becoming the number one contender for his title.

Recently, former WWE writer opened up stating that how Dean Ambrose was a victim of bad booking, even prior to this. Before the debut of the Shield in 2012, he pitched an incredible idea which had all the potential to be a successful one.
Back then, AJ Lee was the mainstay of the women’s division who had the character of a crazy woman. At one point, she even received treatment for her mental state. Eck wanted to send her to the mental asylum and write her off from WWE TV.

She would have met with another crazy guy there and come back with him. The person would have been none other than Dean Ambrose. This would have marked a solo debut for the Lunatic Fringe in the WWE. They were also supposed to get a big push heading them both straight into the title picture.

But, Vince McMahon rejected the idea after hearing it. He was rather interested in putting AJ on another role and hence she became the new general manager of Monday Night Raw on the 1000th episode.

Eck also revealed that the Shield was originally supposed to debut on that night. The faction would have consisted Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Kassius Ohno from NXT. The ECW legend Tommy Dreamer was also pitted for the storyline so that he could introduce the team to the WWE Universe. Even a heel Daniel Bryan was also considered for the role of the same. Check the quotes from Eck regarding the storyline:

“They say Dreamer wanted them to work their way up the card and do things the right way, but they’re not going to play by his rules. They reveal that their leader is someone with a background like theirs who knows success is achieved by any means necessary: Bryan (who was a heel at that time).”
