One of the most successful original programs delivered on the WWE Network has been the Mae Young Classic. It was the first-ever competition for female athletes all over the world to appear on TV and impress the fans. If they would have been lucky enough then they can certainly be offered new contracts to become a future WWE Superstar. After grand outings in 2017 and 2018, WWE has decided to cancel the plans for this year’s Mae Young Classic.

Officials Considering A Match Between Goldberg & Matt Riddle

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE did have some plans for hosting the 3rd Mae Young Classic tournament. They had plans to hold the tapings on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3 at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. But none of the pans are on the card as indicated in the following statements from sescoops.com,

“Plans were changed as WWE has decided against holding another all-women’s tournament until 2020. This comes after the WWE NXT ticket website advertised last week the MYC tapings for early November. The notice for those tickets was removed as no announcement was ever made. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on when the 2020 tournament will be held.”

WWE fans had no idea about WWE canceling Mae Young Classic for this year as Triple H stated something else about it. In a recent media call back in early August, The Game mentioned how the company is working on finalizing plans for the tournament. He also revealed that WWE was going to make an official announcement regarding the same. But the series named after WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young has the least chances of coming back.

The company might be having too much on the plate which must be the reason that they could not bring the idea to fruition around Mae Yong Classis. They have ushered in a new era in the programming by having the season premiere of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown on USA Network and FOX. Separate premiere followed on the USA Network for NXT, too. In case you’ve forgotten, Kairi Sane defeated Shayna Baszler in the finals to win the 2017 Mae Young Classis tournament while Toni Storm defeated Io Shirai to win in 2018.
