A new era of WWE NXT began with the main event of WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022 where we received a new NXT Champion. Bron Breakker is the new NXT Champion who is also being dubbed as the new face of the brand.

The commercial-free main event of last night’s WWE NXT New Year’s Evil special saw Breakker winning the title by defeating Tommaso Ciampa in a singles contest. It was a tough back and forth contest where Breakker put Ciampa through the tables in a big spot. Ciampa kicked out and hit a Fairy Tale Ending from which Breakker kicked out to shock everyone. Breakker then hit a flying bulldog on Ciampa and won by submission after applying the Steiner Recliner submission move.

WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2022: Bron Breakker Becomes New Champion; Rick Steiner Appears 2

Rick Steiner made his first WWE NXT appearance

Legendary Rick Steiner watched from ringside as his son Bron Breakker defeated Tommaso Ciampa for the WWE NXT Title in the main event of the New Year’s Evil special. Steiner was shouting for his son throughout the match who also joined him in the ring for a post-match celebration once the main show of NXT went off the air.

As seen in the released photos and videos on the internet after WWE NXT January 4 episode, Rick Steiner was also greeted by Ciampa, after the match. The former champion also went over and shared a moment of respect with the former World Tag Team Champion, former WCW World Television Champion, and the former WCW United States Champion which was a pure sign of respect.

Breakker had told in previous interviews that his Steiner was originally supposed to be in the crowd for his first title match against Ciampa, back at Halloween Havoc in October but last night marked his first presence on NXT. Rick Steiner’s brother and Breakker’s legendary uncle, Scott Steiner was not on the show which is pretty obvious since he’s not on good terms with WWE, these days.

During the NXT New Year’s Evil, WWE NXT Women’s Championship was also on the line where Mandy Rose (c) defeated Cora Jade and Raquel Gonzalez to retain the title in a Triple Threat. In another title match from the night, NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes (c) defeated NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong (c) to become a dual champion.
