As per the earlier updates from mid-November, top WWE NXT Superstars Johnny Gargano’s deal with the company was about to end. He had reportedly not signed a new WWE contract as of the builds of WarGames, but WWE had made a strong offer to which no positive response was made.
To be precise, Johnny Gargano’s contract with WWE was previously set to expire on Friday, December 3. But then WWE announced him for the Men’s WarGames match that takes place at the NXT WarGames PPV event on Sunday, December 5. Following this announcement, many fans have wondered where the two parties stood regarding the contractual obligations.

Johnny Gargano has then signed a one-week extension to his original contract, according to the reports of Fightful. As a result, his contract will now end on Friday, December 10. Talks between the two sides are reportedly still going on. The report also noted that the talks are continuing much like Adam Cole. WWE is highly interested in extending the former NXT Champion’s deal when other companies are also likely interested.

Johnny Gargano is excited for WarGames 2021
Johnny Gargano hasn’t commented on the situation but he did comment on social media about making his WarGames debut. His below statement affirms that performing inside the WarGames structure is one of the reasons that he extended the contract for a week,
“There’s one match that’s avoided me in my entire NXT career but this year…it’s finally time. WAR GAMES!”
Speaking of WarGames, several matches for the show were announced on the November 23 episode of NXT. This included the Men’s WarGames match where Team Old School (NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne, and LA Knight) will take on Team New School (Bron Breakker, NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, Tony D’Angelo, and Grayson Waller).
While Johnny Gargano’s WWE contract is all set to expire, his wife Candice LeRae is currently out of action due to pregnancy. Her contract will also reportedly expire sometime in 2022, as per earlier updates from Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Another top NXT star Kyle O’Reilly’s WWE deal is also set to expire sometime in December, but there’s no update on whether he’s re-signed his deal to stay with the WWE for some more years.
