For several weeks leading up to Summerslam 2021, reports claimed that WWE wanted to do another Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns matchup. This match would have a completely new dynamic with the latter being the alpha male of the WWE roster these days in the absence of his adversary for almost one and a half years. Now that plans have been confirmed at the bygone PPV event.

As seen in the main event of WWE SummerSlam 2021 pay-per-view, Roman Reigns defeated WWE Legend John Cena to retain his Universal Championship via clean pinfall. After the match, Reigns stood tall over a lying Cena, and proceeded to mock him with the “You Can’t See Me” hand gesture when Brock Lesnar’s music hit the arena to send the fans into a frenzy.

In more news to the match, Wrestling Observer reported that WWE was originally planning to do the next installment of Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39 in 2023 since Roman Reigns vs. The Rock is the plan for WrestleMania 38 in 2022. But then Reigns vs. Lesnar was preponed given the returning Saudi show should have a big headliner match.
