This week’s RAW started as footage from last Saturday’s Day 1 pay per view event was shown for Brock Lesnar surprisingly WWE Championship after winning the fatal 5 way match which also included Bobby Lashley, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and the previous WWE Champion Big E.

Paul Heyman was seen standing inside the ring who introduced the new WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. Heyman is back in his previous job. Lesnar gave Shout Out to the Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns and wanted him by saying “South Carolina, acknowledge me.”

Lesnar then thanked Heyman for everything. Heyman talked about the fatal 4 way match that had been scheduled to crown the number one contender for the WWE title and talked about all four men involved in this match one by one. He also mentioned Roman Reigns.

Match 1 – The Alpha Academy defeated RK-Bro

It was a short non title match just to round the next number one contender for the Raw tag team titles. It went on for only 3 minutes and there is nothing special about it, except RK-Bro lost a match after a long time. Otis pinned Riddle to earn the victory for his side.

Match 2 – WWE 24/7 Championship – Reggie and Dana Brooke defeated Akira Tozawa and Tamina Snuka

This has to be the most meaningless and clueless booking ever. If there is a singles title on the line in a tag team match, whoever takes the pin wins the title. But here, the story is different. Reggie pinned Tozawa and Dana Brooke retained the title! What is wrong with WWE? The 24/7 title that should have been one of the most interesting titles is turning out to be the most meaningless title.

WWE Raw Women’s champion Becky Lynch came out to the arena. She talked about her win over Liv Morgan at the Day 1 pay per view event. Meanwhile she was interrupted by Liv Morgan and Bianca Belair and both of them claimed for a title shot. The discussion brock on to a fight where all three women fought each other and Becky stood tall at the end.

Match 3 – WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship – Carmella and Queen Zelina defeated Nikki ASH and Rhea Ripley – it was a short, two and a half minutes long match. Once again Nikki who was known as the weakest link got pinned by Zelina and this roll up pin came out of nowhere.

Match 4 – The Street Profits defeated Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez

This was another shot match which was booked for only two minutes. Apollo maintained his jobber status here once again. Montez Ford pinned Apollo with a Frog Splash.

Match 5 – WWE United States Championship – Damian Priest defeated Dolph Ziggler

The match was booked for six minutes and it was a really fun match. A stipulation was given if Priest got disqualified or counted out, he would lose the title. Priest pinned Ziggler with the Reckoning.

Next up was a promo segment between Miz, Maryse, Edge and Beth Phoenix. The whole segment was unnecessarily too long. The main point of this segment was to book a mixed tag team match between Miz and Maryse vs Edge and Beth Phoenix.

Match 6 – Omos defeated AJ Styles

The match was booked for only 3 minutes and it was a very easy victory for Omos. AJ Styles had his open face but they were barely able to move Omos from his position. Omos defeated Styles with a two handed Chokeslam.

Match 7 – Bobby Lashley defeated Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and Big E to become the number one contender for the WWE Championship – it was not the right decision. It was definitely the best match of the night but it should not have been Bobby. They should have protected him till Wrestlemania. It should have been Big E. Lashley pinned Owens to win the match. Lashley and Lesnar had a face off at the end of the match as this week’s Raw went off air.

The first Raw of 2022 was disappointing from so many aspects. There were too long promos for absolutely no reason, and the matches were no quality at all. Most of them were 2 to 3 minutes long. AJ Styles should not have jobbed to Omos in such a terrible way. WWE should have waited till WrestleMania to organise Bobby Lashley versus Brock Lesnar. We give it 2 stars out of 5.
