WWE Raw April 3rd, 2017 Analysis – Best Raw Of The Year?

The wait was finally over; we just witnessed the Raw after WrestleMania, the show that they promote as the best Raw of the year, the show that marks many debuts and returns every year, the show that marks the beginning of many fresh feuds. So how was the first Raw after WrestleMania 33? Let us find out;

The show started in an excellent fashion. The fans were chanting the Undertaker’s name and WWE let them chant it for quite a while. When Roman Reigns came out to the arena the fans crashed upon him with loathsome boos. Roman held the mic in his hand but he did not say anything. Fans kept chanting abusive words for him.

They chanted, ‘delete’ ‘Roman sucks’. Every time he tried to say something fans really booed him loud. They chanted ‘go away’. Nobody seemed to care what he wanted to say. Finally he said’ “this is my yard now!” And he left the ring.

To be honest it was a cool segment. The fans love to boo Roman and they let the fans what they actually wanted to. Roman stood inside the ring for quite a while just to hear the boos. There is an enjoyment in booing someone, especially Roman Reigns and John Cena. So here you go, you got what you wanted.

The Hardy Boys had their first match on Raw since return, the arena was filled with ‘delete’ chants. Unfortunately, there was no broken gimmick. It was the old school Hardy boys. We think they should allow the broken gimmick, this was how Matt Hardy reinvented himself and fans also love it. Just imagine, can you believe Matt Hardy chants in WWE four – five years ago where they were not in WWE? But fans are chanting delete even when they are not on stage. It shows how famous his broken gimmick is.

As for the match, it was average, the whole scenario was booked to hype the Hardy boys. Which is cool.

There was only one Cruiserweight action this week on Raw, which was Neville vs. Mustafa Ali. It was a cool match. Very energetic and pacy. Mustafa was pretty impressive in this match.

Neville picked up a dominant submission victory. We like the way, they are building Neville, such a face was seriously needed in the 205 Live division. So yes, the bookings for Neville are really good so far.

Next in the queue was a promo from the boss; Vince McMahon. It is always good to see Vince on stage. He announced some ‘shake up’ for next week and he also revealed the new Raw general manager; it’s Kurt Angle! Fans really greeted Kurt with a wild ovation. Now it’s our take on this; we think Kurt should turn heel. Kurt is always better as a heel, and heel personas are great for wrestling management scene. Remember Kurt’s heel management days from Smackdown back in 2004. He did an amazing job. That type of persona suits Kurt better and it would really be best for business.

And what did Vince mean by ‘shake things up’? Are they bringing a trade scenario where they will take AJ Styles to Raw and will send Roman Reigns to Smackdown? This has been a rumor for quite a long, looks like it’s finally happening.

Raw after WrestleMania always marks a debut. This year, it marked the debut of the Revival. It had been quite an anticipated debut. The Revival had some amazing memories in the NXT, it is time they do something special in the main roster. As for NXT, with Revival out of the picture, we will definitely see a straight two on two feud between Authors of Pain and #DIY. Revival will be heels. They marked their debut by beating the New Day and kayfabe injuring Kofi Kingston. It’s a good hype.

Emma is back in action too after quite a long time. The Emmalina gimmick is now scrapped. There is no mention of it. She is just Emma, like before. She was involved in a six woman tag team match with all four WrestleMania competitors and Dana Brooke. Dana Brooke is a babyface now. Heels lost the match Sasha made Charlotte submit. After the match, Charlotte and Nia Jax fought as Nia beat down Charlotte which possibly marks a feud. A heel vs. heel feud? Seriously? Let us see what they are planning with this fight.

Paul Heyman and the new Universal champion Brock Lesnar was next in the scene. Heyman addressed Goldberg and said that fans would never see Goldberg again. He then challenged Roman Reigns on behalf of Brock because both of them own victories over Undertaker at WrestleMania, he wanted to decide who the superior one was. Brock got challenged by Braun Strowman next. Now this will be an interesting feud. Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar will be a great match. They should book it for Payback.

Chris Jericho was taken down by Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens, it looks like this will his kayfabe injury that will sideline him from action so he can take his time off for his band tour.

Three more matches to go. One of them was a no 1 contender’s match for the tag team championships. Sheamus and Cesaro defeated Enzo and Cass and they will now face the Hardy boys for the championships. They should book this match for Payback. They can definitely produce a pay per view worthy match. There was another match between Sami Zayn and Jinder Mahal where Sami picked up an easy win. Good for Sami to beat some jobbers. Jinder a mid card jobber so it is okay for Sami to have some matches and win. Having a number of wins over some jobbers could slowly elevate him back where he belonged.

And then, there was the best return of the night. The return of Finn Balor. What a moment it was! Even though it was predicted, but they booked Balor’s return very well. Balor and Seth Rollins picked up a win over Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe where Balor pinned Owens. Hreat return and great momentum given instantly.

Final Verdict – Overall, it was an amazing show. Without any doubt this was the best Raw since the brand split. They did not disappoint us on our expectations from the Raw after WrestleMania, as they built it as the best Raw of the year.
