Rey Mysterio has been a major topic of discussion for the fans over the past few hours. Yesterday, the WWE Raw Superstar took to Twitter to inform that an announcement was coming up that would change the history. The WWE star and lucha libre legend, was also speculated to become an animate character, based on earlier reports.
Proving those right, Rey Mysterio made that major announcement that would change history. It confirms that a project around the WWE Raw Superstar has had in the works for a while. In a press release, it was revealed that Mysterio vs. La Oscuridad, an animated series has been developed by Mysterio and studio ¡Viva Calavera! for Cartoon Network Latin America.

Described as an action and comedy show, Rey Mysterio vs. La Oscuridad (read The Darkness) will follow the journey of Mysterio and a wrestling fan named Oscar (which coincides with Mysterio’s real first name) as they battle the forces of evil. The lucha libre variety will be an integral part of the series as the two will fight against some of the supernatural forces. Their primary villain of the animated series will be a character named Uroboros.

“We are very excited to be able to share with Cartoon Network and Rey Mysterio fans more details and color of this incredible production made in Mexico,” Jaime Jiménez Rión, Vice President of Content and Original Production, WarnerMedia Kids & Family, Latin America, stated. “We are confident that you will enjoy the surprises we have in store and that the show will meet all your expectations.”
The press release noted that the series will debut on Cartoon Network Latin America in 2022, with ten episodes. There’s no update is available on whether WWE is associated with the project although Rey Mysterio currently works for the company. The legendary wrestler himself is yet to make a comment on this announcement.
At this point, Rey Mysterio remains a regular fixture on WWE TV. With son Dominik, he held the Smackdown Tag Team Championships earlier this year who will now go after the RAW Tag Team Championships. They will challenge the Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) to determine the number one contenders for Team RK Bro’s RAW Tag Team Championships.
