A top match was originally planned to go down before WWE Raw tapings, this week but it was canceled due to undisclosed reasons. The following WWE Main Event matches were taped this week in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Coliseum. (Main Event airs every Thursday on Hulu, and on a two-week delay via Peacock/WWE Network)

An update from WWE Raw tapings suggested that WWE originally had Ciampa vs. Finn Balor scheduled for the Main Event taping. Per the reports from Fightful Select, Ciampa worked as a babyface against Crews, the plan was for him to work as a heel against Balor.

This makes sense as Ciampa has recently turned heel upon his inclusion on the main roster. However, there’s no update on why WWE ended up canceling the mouth-watering matchup.
Ciampa attacked Mustafa Ali on last week’s WWE Raw, indicating a heel run on the main roster. Then he solidified his heel shtick by attacking Ali again on this week’s RAW to continue that feud. This happened after Ali suffered a pinfall loss at the hands of The Miz.

As for Balor, he saved AJ Styles from a double-team attack by Damian Priest and WWE Hall of Famer Edge (Judgment Day faction) on WWE RAW. This came just a week after Balor digested a singles loss to Priest. Balor has also dropped the United States title to Austin Theory, a couple of weeks ago.
Balor is currently staying without any storyline on WWE Raw and hence the belief is that he will provide backup to Styles as he continues feuding with Edge and Priest. This Sunday night, Styles and Edge will lock horns in a rematch at Wrestlemania Backlash from Wrestlemania 38 with Priest banned from ringside. This comes after Priest lost his match against Styles, this week.
Ciampa and Balor have previously worked together on the main roster as they defeated Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler in a tag team match on the February 21 episode of WWE Raw. They also worked together in WWE NXT back in late 2019 and early 2020 where Balor defeated Ciampa in a singles match during the November 27, 2019 episode.
