It appears that the Saturday Night Main Event will be back in WWE’s schedule once Wrestlemania 38 season gets over. While no televised program around the old-school gimmick isn’t expected, special house shows are expected to take place featuring top WWE Raw superstars in live events.

The Saturday Night Main Event branding is being used for the live events scheduled for Saturday, April 23 at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery, Alabama, and Saturday, April 30 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida. Tickets around these shows have already gone for sale, starting from Friday, February 25, priced at $24.

Local advertisements also include the likes of AJ Styles, Riddle, and Rhea Ripley.

Saturday Night Main Event is a way back tradition in WWE

While nothing is confirmed, WWE isn’t likely to record or broadcast these upcoming events. WWE revived the Starrcade event first as a house show but later made it available on the WWE Network for a one-off occasion but it was then converted into a house show, yet again. This is supposedly just a marketing gimmick to present those shows more important.

Saturday Night Main Event was WWE’s invention of presenting major stars on television in between pay-per-view events. Back in the 80s and 90s PPV wrestling shows used to arrive in a huge gap and hence this type of show could be presented as a major attraction on weekends. WWE could also promote those shows on their weekly television shows and hype things up.

WWE put together 36 episodes of Saturday Night Main Event, over the years as a late-night NBC special starting from May 1985. They also aired SNME as three FOX specials in 1991 and 1992. It was around 2006 that the gimmick was brought for two special episodes on NBC. Two more were hosted in while one such show ran in 2008.

Saturday Night Main Event had launched The Rock and Wrestling Connection in the past which went on to become a huge success. We’ll have to wait and see whether something similar is targeted in these revived shows under the same name.
