The match on Smackdown is also special because of a big reason, this was LWO’s first ever win as a team. Even though their full team was not involved in this match, but a win is a win of course, no matter how it is earned. But did it really build Zelina as a worthy competitor for tomorrow’s match? Not at all.

No matter what they do, they could never builder as a potential threat for someone like Rhea Ripley. Like the rest of the matches tomorrow, this is going to be another predictable match. The way Rhea was built to win the title, no way she was going to drop it like this, at least to someone who never received a proper build.

WWE Smackdown 05.05.2023 Ratings & Analysis Part 7

About the match, it was not bad, but as we said, it was mostly booked to appease the home crowd. So the babyface side won with Rey Mysterio pinning Dominik Mysterio, again. Dominik was trying to do the Three Amigos of legendary Eddie Guerrero, Rey locked his legs and pinned him. This is that last time father and son is going head to head. We are not going to see them facing each other soon since they are not on the same brand anymore.

We seriously believe WWE should have had this father – son storyline going since it had to end in the middle of nowhere. Dominik might not have been the best wrestler in WWE but he did an excellent job as a heel. He needed at least one victory over his father. But now as the brands are split, hopefully he would be given something more meaningful to do.

After the match, The Judgment Day attacked Rey Mysterio. Damian Priest who was not seen throughout the night also joined the frame to beat down Rey Mysterio. Bad Bunny came out with the LWO to help Rey Mysterio and crowd went really wild. It was one of the biggest pops in WWE this year so far.

They protected the potential fight between Bunny and Priest, and they did the right thing here. Of course something has to be protected for tomorrow, right? There is almost nothing to see at Backlash, no world title match, no Tag Team title match. Just a routine ppv event, just because it had to be done.

Overall it was an extremely average week of Friday Night Smackdown where the only point of the show was to promote Backlash. The show might get more exciting after the draft actually affects. It more seemed like a filler show with no good matches. It was booked because it was scheduled. There is nothing to remember from this week.

Even though it was a go home show for Backlash, they failed to promote all the matches that had been booked for the event. What about the United States championship match? The title that is going to be a property of Friday Night Smackdown from now on? You are not going to have any mention of it? Are they even taking this event seriously at all?
