The matches of Backlash that got good promotion this week of Smackdown were the two Women’s Championship matches, and the Street Fight match between Damian Priest and Bad Bunny. The six man tag team match, Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes received small promotions. Seth Rollins vs. Omos had no mention.
The matches of this week were weak. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Karrion Kross was a pretty good match but it was not something that you would remember for a long time. Nakamura got a very good boost in this match and he is now a top contender for the World Heavyweight championship. This match did a very good job to build him as a top star for Monday Night RAW, as of now.
WWE Smackdown 05.05.2023 Ratings & Analysis Part 8
Three out of four matches were Tag Team matches, so many tag team matches these days. The Street Profits and The OC had been booked pretty strongly. Hopefully they are receiving pushes for future Tag Team title reigns. But they definitely need more strong tag teams to boost their two Tag Team divisions.
The best part of the night had to be the promo from Cody Rhodes. It was just out of the world. Since returning to WWE he has delivered some amazing promos. This one was no different. The short promo but in a very short amount of time he proved what he could do on the mic. WWE‘s decision to push him as a main event start was proving more and more right day by day. Hopefully he beats Brock Lesnar tomorrow.
Has also been announced that WWE is going to organised to different sets of a tournaments to crown the first World Heavyweight champion. Both RAW and Smackdown would have their own tournaments. We do not understand the point of including SmackDown in this tournament when they have already said that the new World Heavyweight title will be an exclusive property of Monday Night RAW.
Maybe they are trying to present the new title as a worthy World title for maybe they wanted to give equal opportunities to the stars of Smackdown just to remind everyone that Roman Reigns did not defend his title regularly and he is not going to defend is title regularly in future either.
Speaking of Roman Reigns he would be appearing on Friday Night Smackdown next week which has already been announced. We wonder what is the point of this appearance. Maybe they are trying to book him in a match for Night of Champions. They might start building the match from next week. This is the only reason we can see of Roman Reigns’ possible appearance next week. We give this week’s Smackdown 1.5 out of 5.
